This post describes the process of downloading Ubuntu Desktop Operating System ISO file. You will need to download Ubuntu ISO file if you want to install Ubuntu on your PC.

On any existing operating system, open a web browser and navigate to official website of Ubuntu Operating System.

Click on the “Download” Tab (step 1). Clicking download tab will drop down a download page with options for Desktop, Server, IoT and Cloud downloads. Click on the latest version Ubuntu download link (step 2).

The browser will navigate to latest Ubuntu Long Term Support version’s download page. Either the browser will automatically prompt to save the ISO file to your computer or if the download box does not appear automatically, you shall click on “download now” link.

In either of the above cases the download dialog box will prompt to save the file to your computer. Select the “Save file” button and click on “OK”.

The ISO file will start downloading on your computer. Wait for download to finish. An ISO file with name resembling the Ubuntu edition and architecture in its name will be downloaded to the location you saved the ISO file.

The default download location on Windows is:

C:\Users\Current_User\Downloads\

The default download location on Linux is:

/home/Current_User/Downloads/

You may choose an alternate download location while downloading. The ISO file will be approximately 2.52 GB.

Here the ubuntu filename represents Ubuntu version-flavour-architecture. You may rename this file, if required.

You should now proceed with verification of Ubuntu Desktop ISO file before using the downloaded file for any purpose to ensure its integrity and authenticity.
